Monthly Archives: April 2012
Stopped by the Rear Naked Choke jam room to deliver the DVD’s of the photoshoot I did of them at the 420 Bash at Little Texas. It turned out pretty good.
I continue to learn more and more about the world of live music. As I learn, my appreciation of what musicians do is increasing, which makes it all the more fun for me. My horizons are definitely broadening.
I want to say thank you again to the guys in RNC – Mick, Cody, Ferron, Mike and Chris. It was a great adventure. I’d like to do it again.
I’ve been working on the next part of my website, which is being able to sell prints of my images. Like a lot of people, if I can make a little money at doing this, it will enable me to continue doing something I love to do.
There is currently one photo in the Live Music Prints gallery. It’s a picture of a bird. I’m in the testing phase of development, making sure everything works correctly. And making sure everything is secure.
At one point on Saturday, while testing security settings, I actually locked myself out of the site for a bit. Yup. Slammed that door just a little too hard and it stuck. So, the security works.
I will be using PayPal’s credit card processing to receive payments. I know some people have issues with PayPal, but this is the option that’s open to me right now. I personally have always had good dealings with PayPal. And you WON’T have to have a PayPal account to use your credit card.
So, I’m hoping that a few people around the world will like some of the work I’ve done and buy a print or two. It’ll help keep me in the fun zone that I’m in. But don’t buy that bird just yet. We’re still testing.
This a big test
The Birds of Last Summer Gallery 11 is ready for viewing. This is the final installment for the Birds of Last Summer series. I have a couple more galleries from last year to post, and then I’ll be uploading images from this year.
Over the weekend I’ll be adding more Live Music images. There will be a new gallery for Three Shades Blue, and a gallery for Rear Naked Choke.
Have a great weekend!
The Nature images in the Birds of Last Summer Gallery 10 are uploaded and ready for viewing. This is another selection of birds in flight around the feeder in a tree. Go to the Birds of Last Summer Album Page and scroll to the bottom of the list. You may see some galleries that might have been overlooked while you’re there.
I’ll be finishing up today on the images from the Rear Naked Choke show last week, and should have them uploaded by late tonight. Please go the RNC’s ReverbNation Page and listen to the song Better Man, and then buy it through ReverbNation, which will take you to CD Baby, or buy it through iTunes. I think it’s a GREAT song.
At the end of the week I’ll be finishing the images from Party Ranch in San Angelo where Three Shades Blue played almost two weeks ago. Go to the Three Shades Blue ReverbNation Page to sample their music and buy their current album or singles.
Be sure to subscribe to my blog or follow me six different ways using the Follow button on the Home and Blog Pages.
For those who may be interested I’m going to list several options for following what’s going on with DWHanson Photography.
Facebook, Twitter, Google+, ReverbNation, RSS Feed, and LinkedIn (When I’m out on a shoot for live music I will post to Facebook and Twitter)
Lastly, you can Like my Facebook Page at DWHanson Photography
Hopefully this will cover all the bases. Thanks for supporting what I do!
I’m testing out the slideshow type gallery to see if people like it. The slideshow will run automatically, and I set the images to change every 5 seconds. When your mouse is over the image, a Pause button appears in the center of the image. Move your mouse out of the image area and the Pause button disappears.
Please let me know if you DO NOT like the slideshow, and would prefer the thumbnail type galleries. If I don’t hear from you, I’ll assume you like the slideshow the best.
The images for the ArtWalk and Cajun Fest April 2012 are uploaded and ready to view. I created a new category for Event Images. There were three music groups performing there. Cooper High School Red, Rhythm, and Blues; Revolution Strings; and the Abilene High School Steel Drum Band.
I’ve not been able to get much detailed information on the AHS Steel Drum Band and Red, Rhythm, and Blues. In fact, I’m assuming the one group of singers was R.R. & Blues, because they were scheduled to perform there. I’m hoping these groups will be publicized more. They are very entertaining.
So sorry for the delay.
Live Music News! I just found out that Three Shades Blue is opening for Rick Springfield at the Brownwood Reunion Celebration 2012 on September 14, 2012. I’ll certainly be blogging more about this later!
For now, here’s a link to the information on TSB’s Facebook page Rick Springfield w/ Three Shades Blue @ Brownwood Reunion Celebration 2012
This is a link to CelebrateBrownwood.com and info about the Brownwood Reunion 2012
This is awesome news for Three Shades Blue. Congratulations doesn’t even cover it, but it’s all I can think of at the moment. Really excited for you guys!
My next photo shoot for live music is Rear Naked Choke, a Heavy Metal band based in Abilene, Texas, on April 20th at Little Texas in Abilene.
There will be other bands performing that night. Live music starts at 8:15pm, and Rear Naked Choke takes the stage at 10:15.
I’ve got a bit of a story to tell about this band. I first heard their song “Better Man” on Monday, April 16th. I got a heads up from Chris Summers, 2nd guitar, that one of their songs was up against another one in a contest on Rock 108, so I went and gave it a listen and voted. I’ve been entranced by this song ever since.
A lot of songs turn me on. Some carry me to another place. This one carries me.
Last night, Wednesday, I went to RNC’s jam room to listen to them practice so I would have a sense of what to look for during the photo shoot Friday night. During practice RNC turns off the overhead lights and uses their show lights to help the mood. I was sitting in a chair, out of lead singer Mick Taylor’s way, which is a good place to be. It was toward the end of practice that the band played this song, and everything slowed to a calm.
The song started up, and I settled in to listen. I had the same good feeling that I’d had on Monday when I first heard it. I love this song. But then something unexpected came over me. As I looked around the room at the band members playing, I felt like I had been set apart from these guys. I literally had the feeling that I was watching a movie about a band that had a song that made it big, and I was in the movie. I was there in the beginning, listening to the song that would soon become famous.
It was a great experience. I’ll never forget it. I shared my experience with the band.
I don’t claim to know a lot about music, but I know what matters to ME. I’ve never been a listener of Heavy Metal music, but “Better Man” reaches over that line. The lyrics, and what they are about, really move me. The short story is that the lyrics talk about a father’s love for his son. Couple that with the music and there is a song that carries me away.
If you want the long version of the story behind the song, show up Friday night and ask Mick. He wrote it.
RNC also mentioned that they owe a big thank you to Ric Rogers of Three Shades Blue for his help in starting the recording process for the band. RNC didn’t have the equipment to record at the time, and Ric really helped them to get rolling by recording the instruments. Ric has also been a big help in the mixing stage by giving some advice and input on using the software.
The other members of Rear Naked Choke are Mike Morgan, 1st guitar; Cody Mills, drummer; and Ferron Mercer, bass player. They are genuine Heavy Metal, and very good at it. If this is your kind of music, Friday night should be great!
